I have thought about how to present this journal for several months, and have decided to write it as if I were writing a letter to a friend, which is something I used to do quite a bit growing up. I had thought about the different styles of writing, but none of the others appealed to me. The decision was made final when I found an old box of letters and started reading them. They were from friends I made at camp when I was about fourteen years old. One letter said that they were impressed that I had “written thirty letters that month!”. When I read that, I was equally impressed with my past writing ability and wondered when I had had the time, or was it a challenge, a goal, or what? So I looked at the postmarks on the letters I had read, and saw that they were all from 1964. What happened in 1964? Oh, that was one of the years that I had to stay in bed 24/7, not able to sit up or get out of bed for ANY reason, because I had had back surgery and had to stay down for nine months. I had to do the same thing for six months just two years later. The repeat surgery was to repair the part of the first surgery that didn’t hold up. So I guess I DID have lots of time to write letters!
I have been taking photographs since I was about ten years old. That gives me quite a few years of subject matter to draw from while writing this journal. Sixty plus years of photography, a daunting task ahead.
Last month, two neighbors died. Yesterday a baby was born to the family next door, their first.
This month, I am entering a contest featuring a dragonfly as the subject. The dragonfly is being used to represent The Fable Of The Dragonfly. I will report on the outcome in a later post.
I have a personal goal of getting 500 subscribers, to this journal, by the end of this year. If you would like to help, click on your social media icons to promote the journal. You can also email your friends with a link to this site (https://www.deutschfriesenhahn.com/journal). Thanks in advance for your help.
What did I do interesting this weekend? I made Apricot Kolaches and watched a 007 movie that I hadn’t seen (Casino Royale – Daniel Craig as 007) !

For You
Traditional Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
